Terminator 4 sucked.

But that's not to say terminators 1-3 weren't awesome.
Anyway, heres an update on how my robo friend is coming along, I've given him some hips and thighs.... I was at work all day so I've only gotten in about 2 hours of work :(

Third 3D scene

So this is my third 3D scene in Illustrator that I've been working on all day today.... its a Terminator (don't judge). I've still got A LOT of work to do but I think its coming along nicely and I should be done in a couple days.

here are two pictures of the WIP.... I think I might go crazy when it comes to making the head....

Typography is back for vengeance!

So this is the strangest thing... I've already FAILED typography once in my previous college, the prof came very close to telling me I was a complete moron and would never learn typography... and then I come to Seneca and I'm PASSING every day it seems I come to realize more and more that George Brown is NOT the college to go to if you want to get into a creative career... no matter how much they try to tell you otherwise. Anyway, here are some typography projects I've done this term:

The first four are from the '6 elements of design' project (I know there are only four... but I didn't like the other two pictures) and the second are two projects mashed together -to save space- the first six are typographic design and the last three are a design principles assignment.

Rambling crazy....

Whatever doesn't kill you...

So, I had to repost this since for some reason the HTML screwed up... yeah, I don't get it either, but I still wanted this project up here so for all my loyal readers (i do have some, right?) I just wasted a good hour or so of my life putting in a preloader for the document, and redoing the HTML that went wonky...

Illustrator madness!

Its been a few days since my last post so I thought I'd upload some screen shots of what I've been up to in the past couple of days. I've been working in Illustrator using the 3D tools, its been a while since I've used these good ol' tools so its been fun getting to use them again.

So, the first picture is a BBQ with a wooden deck chair, everything in the scene is made with the 3D tools with the exception of the smoke which is made with the symbol sprayer. The second picture is a fish (clearly) he's made entirely with the 3D revolve tool with the exception of his fins which are made using the extrude tool.

I'm almost done the BBQ scene, I've just got to add a few more things, and the fish is far from complete, I think I'll give him a couple friends and maybe some water.

Flash Fun

So in my procrastination mood I've been playing with flash and trying to get the actionscript to go my way, after about 10 hours of staring at what seems like random gibberish I'm finally semi happy with the outcome. This is a flash movie I'm using for an interactivity assignment. Tomorrow I'll be adding in the research information to the 'touch screen' and the buttons at the top of the screen will lead to more pages.

stay tuned fore more updates (if you care anyway). I can't say its the most exciting flash video in the world but its one of first things I've made so I think its a good start.

*It may take a minute for the swf file to load, but when it does take it for a spin, it doesn't really do anything other than the finger moves when the mouse is clicked, but it will do more soon*

ZOMBIES!!!!

Admit it, you love zombies too. For me zombies and killer robots go hand in hand, give me a cheesy zombie or robot movie over an oscar winner any day!

Anyway, the reason for this post was because I was sitting at my desk last night and out from behind my monitor is peeking an old sculpture I made. I could never quite decide how to complete it, so there it sits, behind the LCD -- safe from being knocked onto the ground -- until I decide. If he was to become a zombie I was planning on completing him with some torn flesh and other zombish qualities, then planned to cast him in silicone and punch scraggly gray hairs to his scalp. OR he may become a cybernetic robot... if that's the case then there is a lot more work involved as machined parts are so refined and precise and making them out of clay I can't imagine would be all too enjoyable. Plus I would have to cast two separate moulds, one out of silicone for the fleshy outer part, and a second out of plaster (since I have no idea how to cast metal) for the cyborg part.

I'm sure one day I'll decide, but for right now he's content with what he looks like now and I'm not in any rush to complete it... at least now I'll have something to do on a rainy day.

Flickr shtuff

So I finally got my flickr.com account up and running.

From my blog to the flickr account there really isn't too much of a difference, but if you want to take a look for the heck of it, here is the link:

Lions, Squids, & Bears, OH MY!

So I took a trip to the zoo the other day... well not really. Anyway, here are the illustrations I've developed to show each bio-zone.

So the animals I've got are:

Polar: Penguins & a Polar Bear
Desert: Tortoise & Kangaroo
Ocean: Squid & Jelly Fish
Rain forest: Bush Baby & Boa Constrictor
Savannah: Lion & Elephant

And then here is a screen capture of me tracing my sketches in Adobe Illustrator:

Updated 06/20/09*** Ugh, I just realized how much of a moron I am. Although not displayed in the pictures above I did put in the descriptions of each animal, but I simply typed them out rather than giving them there own little box.... and I've already sent the final images to the prof. damn, well lesson learned for next time I suppose.

See ya!

Downtown Adventure

So Last Monday the entire class armed with our digital cameras, and list of locations peppered around Queen & Portland we set out as one giant group to find everything on the list. We were out and about for approx. 3 hours or so and we slowly but surely found everything on the list.

The following picture is all of the photos I took that day... I think there is close to 200, including the two of me when I first woke up in the morning brushing my teeth, and the second of me going to bed at night with my puppy Wendy (I look a little crazy in the second photo).

And something else I'd like to post here, since I was so photo crazy from Monday I've started taking pictures of just about every mundane thing I come across, however the other day I went out onto my balcony and the apartment building across the road was on fire!!! so here are a few photos from that, it wasn't a large one but the apartment with the fire, and the one below it were billowing black smoke and the bbq on one of the balconies was on fire.... propane explosion anyone?... no, luckily it didn't explode.

thats it...

this is a project I did last year, its aBMW Concept Car rendering which I made in Adobe Illustrator using the mesh tool, 3D revolve/rotate/extrude, and art mapping. All together it took approx. 100 hours to complete.

Final output

Sketch book

So this one completely slipped my mind, although this was supposed to be the first post of the blog I can't imagine anyone being too angry with me for not posting my brilliantly made sketch book earlier. However it is anything but brilliant, the only things I had readily available to me was some craft paper (spine) card backing from a pad of paper (covers), and then 50 or so sheets of regular printer paper (guts).

So this is it! I actually really like how it came out, even though it is rather bland and plane looking. I think the craft paper and card stock really look good together (probably because they are identical in texture, colour, and overall quality) anyway, take a look at the pictures and judge for yourself!

and then there was Ed.

This is one of Ed Roth's disgusting pieces of work. I can't say I'm all too fond of his style, its crude, revolting, and reminds me of a rejected "Ren & Stimpy" character. However I did have fun creating my own drawing based off his original style.

So this is my version of a
Ren & Stimpy Character reject:

Do I have something on my face?

So... well I suppose this one is rather self explanatory. You know when you've got an old magazine or last weeks news paper and then all of a sudden before you know it you've given Jennifer Aniston a Hitler mustache?

Well this is the same thing.

That's it, that's all.....

The Next Da Vinci....

So last week was water colour painting week! YAY?? Well, needless to say my painting skills leave MUCH to be desired, I can't really say paint is my medium of choice. And, after my paintbrush ran dry and the paint on the paper looked like scratchy chalk marks time and time again, I quickly remembered the cardinal rule of water colour, the more water the better.

So this is what I came up with, the first is the sentinel from "The Matrix", the second is the killer bug from "Starship Troopers" and the third is a Hockey mask (or what I think is a hockey mask)

well that's that,
ENJOY!
